Napa Valley in California is made up of six regions – Napa, Yountville, Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena, and Calistoga. They are home to over 300 public and private wineries. Sonoma Valley is home to over 200 wineries. Downtown Sonoma's Historic Sonoma Square is home to the oldest winery in California, and along the Russian River is where the largest producer of champagne in the U.S. resides.

In Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley there are many companies who offer chauffeured wine tours, and wineries that cater to both individuals and large groups. A typical wine tour consists of a vineyard tour, a production process run-down, and a wine tasting session.
